Donkeyskin Picture Book

The goal of the Picture Book project was to create a cover for a fantasy childrens book. I picked the story "Donkeyskin", a French fairytale originally written by Charles Perrault. The character, shown in the turnaround, is meant to depict the princess who wore a mantle of donkey skin to disguise herself in the story. As shown in the sketch, the dress was meant to be more complex than the coat, but in the final version it made more sense for the eye to be drawn to the patchwork cloak.
